Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Late Scoring Spree Not Enough for Bobcats Women

It was a tale of two halves for the West Virginia Wesleyan College women's basketball team as it dropped its second Mountain East Conference game of the early season to Frostburg University, 79-69 in the Rockefeller Center, Tuesday.

Wesleyan could not find the back of the net through two quarters and was down 49-23 at the halftime break. Numerous chances inside the paint and from beyond the 3-point line would not go down the cylinder. The Bobcats shot just 9-of-30 in the first half to Frostburg's 17-of-32 performance that included a blazing 2nd period 74% from the field.

But the Bobcats, led by a blizzard of 3-pointers by Sydney Baird, pulled within 10 with a 13-2 scoring spree in the final three minutes. For the game, Charlotte Sherrill added 12 points, Shelby Genes scored six points and had four assists and Courtney Wilfong had five points and six assists.

The most glaring statistic in the game was the lopsided foul calls. For the entire game Wesleyan was whistled for 27 fouls to Frostburg's 12 and this led to 24 points out of 33 tries from the line for the visitors to only 2-of-4 free throws for the Bobcats.

The Wesleyan women next host St. Augustine's University on Saturday, Nov. 25 at 2 p.m. Admission is free.
