It was another close outing for the Bobcat women's basketball team and another fourth quarter loss, this time to the visiting Tigers of Salem University 64-61, Wednesday in the Rockefeller Center.
Down 19-10 in the first quarter, 35-29 at the half and 44-42 going into the final stretch, it wasn't until the last quarter that the Bobcats took the lead. A jumper in the paint by Wesleyan's
Maile Hunt with 3:06 remaining capped an incredible performance in the fourth by Webster Springs freshman
Sydney Baird. As the Tigers fought to maintain the edge, Baird kept scoring to keep the Cats in it, posting 14 of her game-high 21 points.
Along with starter
Shelby Genes (12 points), the Bobcat bench also helped keep things tight, scoring a total of 24 points by
Abby McDonough (8 points),
Charlotte Sherrill (8 points),
Daveona Hatchell (3 points) and Hunt (5 points).
The Bobcats will travel for its final contest of 2023 to Notre Dame College (Ohio) on Saturday, Dec. 9. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
