Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Bobcats Sluggish in Road Victory Over Point Park

The Wesleyan women's basketball team expanded its winning streak to six games with a 62-48 road victory over Point Park University, Wednesday.

On a day when the Bobcats struggled from the floor, its opponent did not fare better. The Bobcats shot 41 percent from the field while the Pioneers managed 37 percent. But two stats stood out that gave Wesleyan the advantage: free throw percentage and turnovers. The Bobcats dropped 82 percent from the charity stripe while the Pioneers managed just 50 percent. The Bobcats committed nine turnovers and the Pioneers nearly doubled that number with 16.

On defense, Wesleyan atypically pulled down fewer rebounds than its opponent. As the conference's No. 1 defense, the Bobcats recorded 33 boards to Point Park's 36.

Bobcat Emma Witt again led her team and the game with 22 points on 9-of-18 shooting; she added nine rebounds and five assists. Sydney Baird scored 13 points (5-of-16 FGs) and Shelby Genes scored nine points (2-of-10 FGs) as both players struggled from the field.

The Pioneers' Emma Pavelek led her team with 12 points and Ari Bleda had 11 points.

The Bobcats (8-1, 5-0 MEC) take its undefeated conference record back to the Rockefeller Center for one more game before the holiday break on Saturday, Dec. 14. Tipoff is 2 p.m. and admission is free.
