Buckhannon, WV – The West Virginia Wesleyan women's basketball team put on a commanding performance at Rockefeller Center, overpowering Warren Wilson in a decisive 96-43 victory on Saturday afternoon.
From the opening tip, Wesleyan (16-5, 10-4 MEC) established its dominance, setting the tone with an 18-6 first-quarter lead. The Bobcats steadily increased its advantage each period, highlighted by a 31-point explosion in the third quarter.
Emma Witt led the charge for the Bobcats, tallying a game-high 20 points on an efficient 9-of-15 shooting while also pulling down eight rebounds and dishing out five assists. The backcourt duo of
Lojain Elfatairy and
Sydney Baird added 12 and 11 points, respectively, with Elfatairy knocking down four three-pointers.
Wesleyan's suffocating defense forced Warren Wilson into 31 turnovers, converting them into 30 points. The Bobcats also dominated the rebounding battle 40-28, capitalizing on second-chance opportunities with 21 points off offensive boards.
Warren Wilson (4-17) struggled from the field, shooting just 25.9% (14-of-54) for the game. Ellie Martin led the Owls, scoring 11 points while collecting five rebounds and three steals. Tatyana Lewis chipped in eight points, but the Owls' offense never found a rhythm, particularly in the fourth quarter, where it shot just 8.3% from the floor.
Wesleyan's depth was on full display, as the bench contributed 35 points.
Valerie Veauthier (7 points) and
Ellie Janssen (6 points) provided instant offense, while the Bobcats' reserves maintained defensive pressure.
