BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Wesleyan College Department of Athletics has announced the 2025 West Virginia Wesleyan Athletic Hall of Fame Class, recognizing five former student-athletes and one championship team for their outstanding athletic achievement, leadership, and lasting impact on Bobcat athletics.
The 2025 Hall of Fame Class includes:
- Chad Ward '95 – Baseball
- Shannon Breen '11 – Football
- William Pugh '48 – Football / Coach
- Kelly Sabol '97 – Volleyball
- Sara Walker Vonwulffen '98 – Women's Track & Field / Cross Country
- 1984–85 Men's Basketball Team
The induction ceremony will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, on the campus of West Virginia Wesleyan College. Additional details regarding the ceremony schedule and related events will be announced at a later date.

Shannon Breen '11 (Football)
A cornerstone of the Bobcat offensive line, Breen was a four-year starter, Division II All-American, and multiple-time All-WVIAC selection. He was selected to the 2011 Division II Cactus Bowl and the Division II All-American Bowl, earning Offensive Lineman of the Game honors. Breen went on to play professionally in the Arena Football League, Canadian Football League, and National Football League, including being named 2015 Arena Football League Offensive Lineman of the Year. |

William Pugh '48 (Football / Coach)
Pugh's legacy at Wesleyan spans generations. As a student-athlete, he was a three-time football letter winner, team captain, All-Conference selection, and recipient of the Dempsey Sportsman Trophy. After serving three years in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he played professionally before returning to Wesleyan as Head Football and Track & Field Coach (1962–68) and Assistant Basketball Coach. His teams captured four conference championships in track and field, and he was named NAIA Area 7 Coach of the Year in 1965. Pugh's impact as a coach and mentor extended far beyond wins and losses. |

Kelly Sabol '97 (Volleyball)
One of the most accomplished volleyball players in NCAA Division II history, Sabol helped lead Wesleyan to four WVIAC Championships and four tournament titles, with three NCAA Tournament appearances. She was named WVIAC Player of the Year (1996) and finished her career as the NCAA Division II statistical champion in hitting percentage, a national record she continues to hold. Sabol also earned multiple All-Conference and All-Region honors during her career. |

Sara Walker Vonwulffen '98 (Women's Track & Field / Cross Country)
A standout in both cross country and track, Walker Vonwulffen was a four-time All-Conference cross country runner and WVIAC Runner of the Year. On the track, she captured 14 conference championships, qualified for NCAA Division II Nationals, and set multiple Wesleyan records. She later served as a graduate assistant at Wesleyan before earning her medical degree and returning to West Virginia as a practicing pediatrician, exemplifying excellence in athletics, academics, and service. |

Chad Ward '95 (Baseball)
One of the most dominant pitchers in Wesleyan baseball history, Ward compiled a 22–2 career record over two seasons, pitching 153.2 innings with 149 strikeouts and a 2.34 ERA, including 16 complete games. He holds program records for career winning percentage and single-season wins (11 in 1994). Ward earned All-WVIAC First Team honors twice, was a two-time WVIAC Pitcher of the Year, and a Second Team NAIA All-American. Following college, he enjoyed a nine-year professional career, earning multiple All-America and Pitcher of the Year honors in independent leagues. |

1984–85 Men's Basketball Team
The 1984–85 Bobcats finished 28–4, earned a No. 6 NAIA national ranking, captured the conference championship, and advanced to the NAIA National Tournament quarterfinals under head coach Rich Cameron. The team featured All-American David Smith and WVIAC Tournament MVP Dwayne Johns, cementing its place as a benchmark of Bobcat basketball excellence |
