Jay Evans

Jay Evans enters his second season at the helm of the West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcat Men’s and Women’s Tennis programs in 2021-22, after being named to the position in July 2020.

Evans led the Bobcat men to their 12th consecutive NCAA Regional appearance in his first season, coaching four All-Mountain East selections en route to a runner-up finish in the MEC and a season-ending #4 ranking in the Atlantic Region. Both programs were also named ITA All-Academic teams during the 2020-21 season.

During Evans' time at Davis & Elkins, he helped the Senators transition into the Mountain East Conference for their inaugural season. Evans coached five Great Midwest Athletic Conference All-Conference Athletes, as well as several athletes ranked in the Atlantic Region. In 2018 he recruited the G-MAC freshman of the year, while also leading both the men's and women's teams to the G-MAC tournament.

Before his time at Davis & Elkins, Evans served as the head coach for Lakewood High School out of St. Petersburg, Florida, where he led the Spartans to a district championship in 2015. In addition, Evans has also acted as the Assistant Tennis Director at Camp Winadu in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, and worked with Eric Dobsha Tennis in Tampa, Florida. Evans completed his Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) Level II Certification in December 2019.

A native of Tampa, Florida, Evans was the first tennis player to sign for college tennis at Robinson High School. Playing his collegiate tennis at Piedmont College in Demorest, Georgia from 2010-2014, Evans was named to the 2011 GSAC All-Freshman team, and the 2011 and 2012 All-Conference teams.
