Dwayne Martin enters his tenth season on the West Virginia Wesleyan football staff in 2024. After being named interim head coach in July of 2021, Martin was officially named head coach on Sept. 15, 2021. In 2019, Martin transitioned from Defensive Coordinator to Special Teams Coordinator, as well as coaching the Defensive Backs. Martin, a native of Akron, Ohio, graduated from WVWC with a bachelor's degree in Physical Education in 1996.

Prior to joining the West Virginia Wesleyan staff, Martin was at Clarion University for 10 seasons where he served as the Defensive Coordinator from 2006-12 and in 2015 seasons. He was the Special Teams Coordinator at Clarion from 2013-14. As Special Teams Coordinator in 2014, the Golden Eagles were ranked No. 2 in the nation for blocked kicks and in 2013 were ranked No. 6 in the nation.  In charge of the defense in 2015, Clarion started off with a 7-0 record. In 2009, the Golden Eagle defense had an outstanding season with Clarion ranked No.4 in the entire PSAC yielding only 302.9 yards per game and also ranking third in rushing defense allowing just 118.5 yards per game.
Martin was the Linebackers coach at Slippery Rock University from 2002-2006, where he also ran SRU’s Minority Mentoring program along with other responsibilities. He spent three years at Wesley College (Dover, Del.) as the running backs coach in 1999 and the defensive backs coach from 2000-2001. Martin got his coaching start at West Virginia Tech as the defensive backs coach in 1996 before being promoted to defensive coordinator for the 1997 and 1998 seasons.
Martin resides in Buckhannon with his wife Taylor and their two kids, Trey and Amiya. Martin also has two children, Ellie and Asante that live in North Carolina.
