BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – Lauren Hoelke's goal in the second half for Bloomsburg proved to be the game winner in a 2-1 decision against West Virginia Wesleyan in Friday's third round of the NCAA Tournament. The Huskies claimed the Atlantic Region Women's Soccer championship with the win.
West Virginia Wesleyan ends the season with a 13-2-6 record, while Bloomsburg will square off against Bridgeport on Sunday at 2 p.m. in the national quarterfinals.
Bloomsburg got on the board first, as Taylor Sneidman's shot from 20-yards out left West Virginia Wesleyan trailing 1-0 in the 21st minute. The Bobcats answered 12 minutes later as
Haelly Ramirez's header off of
Natalie Prater's feed knotted the score. Hoelke's goal in the 76th minute secured the win for the Huskies.
Bloomsburg had 10 shots on goal over the course of the contest with Allie Barber, Natalie Holmes, and Jessica Milligan notching two apiece.
Chrystal Posada and Ramirez accounted for the West Virginia Wesleyan's two shots on goal in the setback.
Chelsea Hubner and
Ashlee Schumacher combined for eight saves in goal for the Bobcats.
The Lady Cats ended the season as the MEC South Division Champs, the MEC Tourney Champs, and the Atlantic Regional Finalists. This team is proud to have nine All-MEC members, and three All-Region members during a nineteen game unbeaten streak. The Lady Cats want to thank everyone for their support during this historic season.
