Buckhannon, WV -- West Virginia Wesleyan swept past visiting Salem University Saturday by a 9-0 score in regional tennis action.
Wesleyan, ranked #37 in Division II, improves to 7-2 overall with the win, and will square off against #17 ranked Bluefield State at 1pm on Monday in Buckhannon. The big Blues are also the top ranked team in the Atlantic regional rankings, while the 'Cats hold the #2 spot.
On Saturday, Maycon Santos Dias,
Lukas Laipold, and
Yonas Gebre each contributed two points in the win, as a short-handed Tiger squad struggled to match the Bobcats' depth. Wesleyan lost a total of 6 games in the final five matches.
Santos Dias and Salem's Patryk Garwacki had a tight battle at #1 singles, with Dias edging by to take the first set 7-5. Garwacki was forced to retire in the second set with a leg injury.
