Buckhannon- Volleyball was back in action Saturday morning after a big Friday night win. The volleyball Cats made it interesting but came out on top in a five set thriller with a 3-2 win over UVA-Wise.
"It was a big win for us because we were down 2-1 going into the 4th set. We were proud of how they battled back and slowed down the tempo of the match." stated Coach
Nancy Wheeler. She added "Hats off to UVA-Wise today also, they made us earn it."
Wesleyan would take the first set 25-18, with a big start to the set being up as much as 15-3 at one point. The set started with Wesleyan up 4-2 and the Bobcats would take the next 11 out of 12 points including an impressive 8 kills during that stretch. Two of the kills came from
Alexie Arnold.Â
The second set would really set the tone for the exciting match with Wise taking the set 28-26. Wesleyan would not lose any momentum as they played tough in the set being down 21-16 at one point.Â
UVA-Wise would hold the lead the entire third set and eventually won the set 25-19. Wise would jump out to an early lead 12-4. The Bobcats would use 4 kills and five straight points to make it 12-9, but that was the closest Wesleyan would get in the set.
The Bobcats would own the fourth set with a final set score of 25-11. Wesleyan would jump out to a 13-7 lead and then earn the next six points. Those points would include three kills, two of them coming from
Emily Doyle.Â
Wesleyan would take the fifth set 15-10. The game ended with two big time kills, one coming from
Olivia Lundy, and the other coming from
Alexie Arnold.Â
Key performers for the Cats was
Alexie Arnold with 14 kills and 3 blocks, along with
Ebonie Hicks who had 12 kills and 4 blocks.
Hannah Bradford would have the game lead with 30 digs, and
Mackenzie Wheeler would lead the Bobcats with 29 assists. Â
Alivia McDaniel had and impressive three aces in the match as well.
Wesleyan Volleyball improved to 2-9 overall with the win, and 2-0 in MEC paly. Bobcat Volleyball will be back in action at home on Tuesday evening as they take on Salem University at 4 PM, and Alderson-Broaddus at 8 PM.Â
