Wise, VA- West Virginia Wesleyan Men's Basketball hit the road on Wednesday night to take on the UVa-Wise Cavaliers. The Bobcats were looking for their third conference win in a row. Despite 18 made three-pointers, the Cavaliers topped the Bobcats on the evening 85-79 to end a seven game losing streak.
Wesleyan started out 8 for 8 from the field in the first five minutes of the game. The hot shooting start two three-pointers including 9 points from
Dusan Vicentic. At the 13:29 mark in the first half the Bobcats would have a 19-18 lead.
In the next three minutes, Wesleyan would continue their hot shooting start. Going on a 12-7 run,
Fred Brondsted would hit back to back three pointers to push the WVWC lead to six at the 9:47 mark.
At the 5:55 mark, the Cavaliers would tie the game up at 33 by hitting back to back threes.
UVa-Wise would end the half on top 44-42. After a 12 for 14 start from the field, Wesleyan would finish off the half shooting 5 for 17.
Five minutes into the second half the Cavaliers would have a 56-53 lead. The Bobcats would struggle to contain the Cavaliers and gain the lead with them starting the half 7-9 from the field.
Wesleyan would continue their consistent shooting from the beyond the arc with three pointers on back to back possessions. The game would be tied at 64, with 10 minutes left to go in the game. The Cavaliers would score on the next possession, but
Adam Horton would knock down a three on the following possession to give Wesleyan the lead by 1.
Over the next few minutes, a
Clay Todd layup, and three pointers from Vicentic and Petrovic pushed Wesleyan to a 75-66 lead.
The Cavaliers would close the game on a 19-4 run to pick up the victory.
Dusan Vicentic would lead the team with 21 points.
Clay Todd would also add 15 points, and eight Bobcats would hit a three pointer in the game
Wesleyan will be back in action on Saturday when they take on Concord University at home.
