West Virginia Wesleyan Men's Basketball returns home from the opening weekend of the season on Sunday. Friday night saw them fail to hold a halftime lead against one of the top teams in the country in IUP. On Saturday night, they hung in a close game with Pitt-Johnstown, but eventually lost 78-68. The leading scorer for the Bobcats on Saturday was
Dusan Vicentic. The senior forward dumped in sixteen points and made it a double-double with thirteen rebounds. His efforts were not enough however, and the Bobcats return home 0-2.
Luckily, that disappointing opening record can quickly be turned around this upcoming week. On Monday, they will open up the home schedule at 7 PM against Salem. On Wednesday, they will again host a non-conference game at 7 PM, against Shepherd out of the PSAC. That conference gave Wesleyan troubles this weekend, as the Bobcats had to face two of it's top teams. They played a much stronger all-around game against Pitt-Johnstown, shooting with better efficiency and putting in more work on the glass. The issues for the Bobcats this weekend came down to ball security, as the turnover battle was lost in each game, and their opponents were successful in turning them into points on the other end.Â
There is no doubt that a team laden with seniors, and led by an experienced coach in
Nick Patella, will be able to pull together and starting playing cleaner basketball. They will have a chance to get back on track Monday against a Salem team that will be playing its first game of the season. Tip-off is set for 7 PM from the Rockefeller Center, and live video and stats links will be provided Monday afternoon and on the official Wesleyan Bobcats website.
