Lady Bobcats Fall to NDC

Buckhannon, WV-- The West Virginia Wesleyan Lady Bobcats come in to today's match-up with an overall record of (5-15) with a (5-11) conference record. Opposed to Notre Dame College coming into today's matchup with a (12-11) overall record and a (9-8) conference record. The Lady Bobcats are coming off of a huge win against Urbana University this past Thursday. They won on a last second 3-pointer as they are looking to carry that momentum into today's contest. 

The Lady Bobcats would come out right off the tip as Alexa Szelong drives to the basket and dishes to Amira Layeni for a jumper to start the game off on a positive note. Notre Dame would go on a 14-0 run right after the opening basket as they would only miss two shots in the first 5 minutes of play. 

The Lady Bobcat defense would hold the Falcons to just 6 points within the last 5 minutes of the quarter, however the offense would struggle only putting up 4 points in the first quarter. The Lady Bobcats would only shoot 12.5% from the field (2-16) and still searching for their first triple. As the Falcons would be shooting 44.4% from the field (8-18) and 40% from the arc (2-5). Heading into the second quarter the Falcons take a 20-6 lead.

With 5 minutes into the second quarter the Lady Bobcat offense would put up 7 points to the Falcons 2. However, the Falcons would have many opportunities as they would fail to execute. 

At the end of the first half, the Lady Bobcats would hold the Falcon offense to just 9 points as the halftime score would be 29-19. Victoria Jackson would lead the way for the Lady Bobcat offense with 8 points (3-9) from the field, as she would continue to smoke the falcon defenders off of the dribble. The Lady Bobcat offense will need to find away to be more efficient as they are shooting 23.5% from the field opposed the the Falcons shooting 36.4%. The second quarter would be an improvement for the Lady Bobcat offense but will need to build off of that if they want a shot back in this game. 

Both teams would come out scoring on their first possession as the Falcons would try a full court man to man press, putting pressure on the Lady Bobcat offense. However the Lady Bobcat transition offense would break the press and have endless opportunities to score here in the third quarter. 

As the clock ticks down in the 3rd quarter, Notre Dame College would continue to collect offensive rebounds resulting in second chance points for the Falcons. The Lady Bobcats will need to box out the Falcons in order to capitalize in the 4th quarter.  The Lady Bobcats would shoot progressively better over the course of the game, shooting 43.6% from the field (7-16) this this third quarter compared to the Falcons who shot just 26.3% (5-19) in the 3rd. 

The 4th quarter would be a back and forth intense start as the Lady Bobcats looking to get an edge on the Falcons. 

With 3 minutes left in the ball game the Falcons would have the clear advantage as they would be up by 19 points, as the Lady Bobcat offense would continue to struggle from the field. 

As the clock ticks down to zero the Lady Bobcats would fall short to the Falcons by a score of 64-43. Today's highlight players of the game for the Lady Bobcats would be Victoria Jackson with 9 points, 3 assists & 3 rebounds, Abi Gabauer with 8 points, 4 rebounds & 2 steals, and Alexa Szelong with 8 points, and one assist and rebound.   

The Lady Bobcats will be back in action next Wednesday at West Liberty University, with a 5:30 tip-off.
