Lady Bobcats Comes Up Short to Concord

The West Virginia Wesleyan College Lady Bobcats would take on Concord University Mountain Lions in a conference game here in Buckhannon, West Virginia. The Lady Bobcats come into today's match-up with a 4-12 overall record and 4-9 record in conference. While, the Mountain Lions come into today's match-up with a 15-4 overall record and a 10-3 conference record. 

At the end of the first quarter, the Lady Bobcats are trailing the Mountain Lions by a score of 21-12. The Mountain Lions came out the gate shooting 61.5% (8-13) from the field and 57.1% (4-7) from the arc. The Lady Bobcats are shooting 26.3% (5-19) from the field while shooting just 28.6% (2-7) from three. The Lady Bobcats had many opportunities in the first quarter and are looking to execute better in the second quarter. 

With the first half coming to a close, the Mountain Lions started to pull away from the Lady Bobcats with a score of 44-27. The Lady Bobcats shot 33.3% (6-18) from the field in the second quarter and 40% (2-5) from three, while the Mountain Lions continued to stay hot shooting 55.6% from the field and 66.7% from three in the second quarter. The Lady Bobcats spread the ball out well with 5 players in the scoring column, while Concord University had 7 of the 8 players that played the first half in the scoring column. Heading into the third quarter, the Lady Bobcats will need to find a way to slow down the Mountain Lions offense, if they want a chance to get back into this game. 

At the end of the third quarter, the Lady Bobcats would hold the Mountain Lions to just 13 points in the third quarter as the Lady Bobcats would put up 24 points to cut down the scoring margin to just 6 points (57-51). The Lady Bobcats would shot over 50% from three and 55.6% (10-18) from the field this quarter, as Summer Matlack would lead the way with 10 points and 3 assists in the game. The Mountain Lions would cool off this quarter as they shot just 35.7% (5-14) from the field and 33.3% (2-6) from three, which is a substantial drop from the numbers they have put up in the first half. 

The fourth quarter would be constant back and forth action from these two squads. However, the Mountain Lions would pull ahead within the last 2 minutes. The Lady Bobcats would fight to get back in the game, but it just wasn't enough. The Lady Bobcats would put up a great battle against a powerful team, the final score being 76-67. 

In today's match-up the Lady Bobcats would lead in many categories such as Rebounds (39-38), FT % (77.8%), and Steals (10-4). Today's highlight players of the game would be Nicole Gilyard with 13 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists, Alexa Szelong with 11 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists, Victoria Jackson with 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists and Summer Matlack with 10 points, 5 assists and 1 steal.
