ATHENS, W.V. – Saturday afternoon, Wesleyan's softball team took on Concord in a double header matchup. The Lady Bobcats split with the Mountain Lions, winning game one (7-0) and losing game two (1-2).
Game 1:
Wesleyan jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings, thanks to four homeruns for the Lady Bobcats.
Brooke Clark and
Lauryn King both homered in the first inning, followed by
Destiny Alvarado with a homer in the second inning. King also hit another homerun in the second inning. The Lady Bobcats scored their last run in the seventh inning when
Lauren Niglio hit a single up the middle to score King.
Hannah Hudson pitched a full game and picked up her fifth win for the season.
Game 2:
Concord took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when they hit a single down the left field line. Concord put up another run in the bottom of the fourth off a Wesleyan error. Wesleyan finally got onto the board in the top of the fifth inning when
Ciana Bowen drew a leadoff walk.
Brooke Clark had a sacrifice fly that plated
Paije Bragg, who pinch ran for Bowen, to bring the Lady Bobcats within one of the Mountain Lions. Concord would keep their lead and hold off Wesleyan for the remaining two innings to go onto a 2-1 victory.
On Sunday the Lady Bobcats will finish up their weekend trip when they take on UVA-Wise in a double header set for 1 and 3 PM.
