Glenville, WV – Wesleyan took on Glenville State Wednesday night in a doubleheader matchup. The Pioneers took game one, 7-6, while the Lady Bobcats took game two, 6-1.
Game 1:
Glenville took an early lead in the bottom of the second inning when they put up one run. Wesleyan countered with three runs of their own in the top of the fifth when
Kennedy Cowart hit an RBI single and
Kiley Turner brought in two runs. In the bottom of the fifth, Glenville cut the lead to one, when they hit a solo homerun. The Lady Bobcats were able to add two more runs to their lead in the top of the sixth when
Kennedy Cowart hit a double to score
Brooke Clark and
Celia Valencia. This brought the score to 5-2. Wesleyan added on one more insurance run in the top of the seventh inning when Valencia had an RBI and scored
Megan Magsamen. But the Pioneers battled back and put up four runs in the bottom of the seventh to knot it up at 6 all and force extra innings. Neither team scored in the eighth inning, but Glenville was able to put up one run in the bottom of the ninth and clinch game one, 7-6.
Kennedy Cowart went 2-4 in game one and had three RBI's, while
Celia Valencia went 1-2 and had one RBI.
Game 2:
Glenville would take another early lead in the bottom of the first inning when they scored one run. But, the remainder of the game would be all Wesleyan. The Lady Bobcats put up two runs in the top of the first and never looked back.
Lauryn King was able to score from an error on the catcher, while
Ciana Bowen hit an RBI single. Wesleyan put up another run in the top of the fifth when King hit an RBI single. The Lady Bobcats tacked on three more runs in the top of the sixth inning thanks to a two-run homer from
Megan Magsamen and a RBI single from
Destiny Alvarado. Wesleyan would hold off Glenville for the remaining innings and go onto win 6-1.
Lauryn King went 2-3 and had one RBI, while
Miranda Frye also went 2-3.
Haylee Shires picked up the win in the circle, capturing her fifth win of the season.
The Lady Bobcats will return to action this Saturday April 13
th, when they host West Liberty University for a doubleheader matchup. Game one is set to begin at 1:00 PM.
