South Euclid, OH – Wesleyan took on Notre Dame College Friday evening. Notre Dame came into the matchup with an overall record of 6-7 and a conference record of 2-3, while Wesleyan came into the matchup 5-7 overall and 0-5 in conference. The Lady Bobcats would keep the game close throughout the first and second halves, but would come up short and fall to Notre Dame 18-13.
Notre Dame would put up two quick goals to take the lead. A goal from both
Madeline Gorzka and
Madison Duvall tied it all at two apiece. The Falcons then put up another two goals to take back the lead. With fourteen minutes left in the first half,
Samantha Pappas scored for the Lady Bobcats to cut the Falcons lead to only one at 4-3. Notre Dame added to their lead by tacking on two more goals, but a goal from
Lovely Ordonez-Lopez would bring the Lady Bobcats back to within two. Wesleyan and Notre Dame would trade goals with each other to end the half, the Falcons scoring two, followed by Wesleyan scoring back to back goals by Lopez and Duvall. The Lady Bobcats would go into halftime trailing the Falcons by two, 8-6.
To begin the second half, the Lady Bobcats would tie things up at eight all after goals from
Lauren Bolen and Pappas. However, the Falcons would go on a streak and score six unanswered goals. This would bring the score to 14-8 in favor of Notre Dame. With nine minutes left in the second half,
Haley McGuffin scored to cut the lead to 14-9. A minute later, the Falcons would score to take back their six-goal lead and make it 15-9. Duvall would go onto score another goal and cut Notre Dame's lead to five, but the Falcons would counter and score to take back their six-goal lead and make it 16-10. With five minutes left,
Savannah Randolph was able to put one past Notre Dame's goalie and bring the score to 16-11. Again, the Falcons would have an answer and score another two goals to continue their lead at 18-11. The Lady Bobcats scored two late goals, each from Lopez and Duvall. The last-minute attack was not enough for the Lady Bobcats and Notre Dame would win 18-13.
Notre Dame outshot Wesleyan 49-25. Notre Dame also led in groundballs with 22 while Wesleyan had 11.
Madison Duvall led the Lady Bobcat's with four goals and one assist, while
Lovely Ordonez-Lopez had three goals, and
Samantha Pappas had two goals and two assists.
Wesleyan will be back in action when they take on Wheeling Jesuit away on April 14
th at 1:00 PM.
