Buckhannon -- West Virginia Wesleyan claimed a 6-1 victory Thursday over Fairmont State in a pivotal Mountain East women's tennis match. The Lady Bobcats (9-5, 4-1 MEC) opened the match by claiming the doubles point and then took 5 singles matches to seal the win.
The 'Cats got two wins each from
Rebecca Osborne, Cecilia Martinez, Julia Yanes, and
Mariona Junyer while Maddie Chen also contributed a singles point. Only Junyer, who required a super tiebreaker in her match before winning 3-6, 6-3, 10-7, as the rest of the contests were decided in straight sets.Â
Wesleyan won for the fourth consecutive time, and will clinch a top 4 finish in the league with one more conference win. The Lady Bobcats have West Liberty, West Virginia State, and Concord remaining on their Mountain East schedule.Â
