Lady Bobcats Shoot to End Streak on Saturday

Matchup

The Lady Bobcats make the short trip to Elkins on Saturday for a matinee matchup with Davis & Elkins. The Senators are two games ahead of Wesleyan in the Mountain East Conference standings at 3-8, and are 4-13 overall this season. Wesleyan will have another opportunity to end the losing streak on Saturday, it currently sits at twelve games. Davis & Elkins has been very inconsistent throughout the year, beating top MEC teams, and losing to bottom ones. Wednesday was a perfect example, as they dispatched Fairmont State 64-48, who was 6-4 at the time. They have also lost at home to eleventh place Frostburg State, and DII Independent Salem University. Winners of two in a row, it doesn't seem like it's a good time for Wesleyan to play the Senators, but it is certainly a chance to get a win and end the streak.

Key Statistics

D&E (-10.8) and Wesleyan (-20.3) have the two worst scoring margins in the MEC.
D&E has the second worst opponent shooting percentage (46.7%).
D&E's Jamiyah Johnson is currently second in the NCAA in rebounding (14.2 rpg)
Brittany Stawovy has made thirteen three-pointers over the last four games.

Storylines

As shown above, Davis & Elkins' Jamiyah Johnson is one of the nation's best rebounders, and she also averages 19.9 ppg, which is good for fourth in the MEC. She has been even better over her last six games, averaging 22.8 ppg and 15.2 rpg. She is truly one of the best players in the country, and can single-handedly keep the Senators in a game, or win it, evidenced by her two thirty-point, twenty-rebound games this season. The Lady Bobcats are going to have a tough time keeping her in check, as Nicole Gilyard, Cierra Tolbert, and Malaika Kimmons are going to have to work hard on Johnson inside. If they can find a gameplan that works for forty minutes, and shoot the ball well on the other side of the floor, they could finally end the streak.
