The Lady Bobcats fell short to the Lady Hilltoppers in the season opener at West Liberty, the final score was 254.57 to 247.37. The score was close throughout the whole competition, making any mistake costly for either team.Â
Wesleyan hit all of their heats in the first three events. In the Acro Event, the Lady 'Cats lead West Liberty 27.75 to 26.45. All of Wesleyan's Pyramid heats received scores of 9.1 or higher, which shows great consistency in the event. The highest score of the meet for the Bobcats was the Heat Three Pyramid, featuring Freshman Ali Ditchen, Jessica Gardner and Megan Miles, and Sophomore Kayla Wade, scoring a 9.55.Â
After the first three events, Compulsory, Acro, and Pyramid, the running total was 87.75 to 88.70, with the Lady 'Cats trailing by less than a point.
The second half of the competition had some victories as well. Wesleyan won two of the three heats in the Toss event. Although their tumbling event went as planned, the opposing Hilltoppers' higher start values outweighed some of the near flawless execution of Wesleyan's lower start values in the Tumbling events. The highest score in the Tumbling event for the Lady 'Cats was Sophomore Megan Boone's Six Element Pass, a 9.175. Wesleyan's team event score was a 85.82, while West Liberty's was 88.67, advancing their lead.
Although the Lady 'Cats came away with a loss, they had victories within the meet, and made major improvements from last year.
