West Virginia Wesleyan Football has announced the addition of three new coaches for the 2020 season. The staff changes also include title changes of returning coaches, including
Dwayne Martin,
Cortney Roberts, and
Marcus Spearman.Â
The new Defensive Coordinator for the Bobcats in 2020 will be
Allen Gant. He arrives in Buckhannon with high-level experience at Division I and Division II, as he played at the University of Michigan under Head Coaches Brady Hoke and Jim Harbaugh, and was most recently the Defensive Backs Coach for National Semifinalist Slippery Rock this past season. Gant has a Bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan where he was a safety/outside linebacker during his career, and he coached two All-PSACÂ DB's at Slippery Rock in Eric Glover-Williams and Khadir Roberts in 2019.Â
Michael Maloney will take over the Offensive Line and Recruiting Coordinator duties in 2020. Maloney has had three stops at the Division I level at VMI, James Madison, and Marshall. He was in Huntington from 2017-2019, and helped lead the Thundering Herd to three straight bowl game appearances. As the Offensive Graduate Assistant, he worked with the Offensive Line and gained recruiting experience in West Virginia, Ohio, and Kentucky. Maloney holds a Bachelor's from VMI, and a Master's in Leadership Studies from Marshall. He will also serve as the Football Camp Director.
Dominic Bornman will be the new leader of the Wide Receivers room, as well as garnering the title of Strength & Conditioning Coordinator. Bornman has an extensive resume featuring many stops across different levels of college football. Most recently, he served as the Offensive Skills Coach, Video Coordinator, and Strength & Conditioning Coordinator at Illinois College in Jacksonville, IL. He has coached Wide Receivers at Dickinson College and Lycoming College, and got experience in Strength & Conditioning at Tiffin University and Stanford University. Bornman holds a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology and Digital Media from Juniata College.Â
The new Offensive Coordinator for the Bobcats will be
Cortney Roberts. After working as the Passing Game Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach for the past two seasons, Head Coach
Tony Testa has promoted Roberts to lead the offense in 2020. Before arriving at Wesleyan, Roberts was the Quarterbacks Coach at St. Vincent College where he led the 22nd ranked passing offense in the country.Â
The title changes for returning coaches are as follows:
Dwayne Martin - Assistant Head Coach/Special Teams Coordinator/Defensive Backs/Academic Coordinator
Cortney Roberts - Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks/Community Service Coordinator
Marcus Spearman - Defensive Line/Director of Football Operations & Equipment
Additionally, Coach Testa has made updates to the recruiting area assignments for his staff. He will cover West Virginia, Eastern Kentucky, and Southern Ohio.
Dwayne Martin has Prince George's, Anne Arundel, and Howard Counties in Maryland, and the Akron/Canton area of Ohio.
Cortney Roberts takes over Charles, St. Mary's, and Calvert Counties in Maryland, the District of Columbia, and the I-95 Cooridor in Virginia.
Michael Maloney has the rest of the state of Virginia, and Montgomery County in Maryland.
Dominic Bornman will take over Central and Western Maryland, as well as all of Pennsylvania.
Allen Gant will scout Ohio, and Harford and Towson Counties in Maryland. Lastly,
Marcus Spearman has Baltimore and the state of North Carolina.
