Recap
Over the twelve game schedule on the Spring Break Trip to Florida, Wesleyan Baseball returned with just one victory, finishing 1-11. Their victory came on Thursday against USciences, narrowly defeating the Devils 4-3. Besides that result, the other bright spots of the trip were the individual performances of
Nick Grotti,
Bryson Fluke, and
Sam Ingram. Grotti has been a steady presence in the middle of the lineup for the Bobcats this season in his junior year, hitting .340 with 16 hits, 9 RBI, and a home run. Fluke is enjoying a strong senior season so far in the leadoff spot, leading the team in hitting (.500), hits (17), and runs scored (9). Ingram has been a pleasant surprise for Head Coach
Randy Tenney through his first twelve games in the orange and black, hitting .303 and leading the team with six stolen bases in six attempts.Â
It has unraveled for the 'Cats on the mound this season, with a team ERA just under ten. With 93 walks and 126 earned runs in 114 innings, the pitching staff has to improve if they are going to compete in the Mountain East Conference. The combination of a team ERA over nine, a team batting average under .220, and a fielding percentage of .932 is not going to win games in this league. Coach Tenney needs more than three guys to be productive when the Bobcats begin MEC play this weekend against Frostburg State and Fairmont State.Â
