Breaking: Spring Eligibility Waivers Approved by NCAA

Latest Updates in NCAA Response to Coronavirus

BREAKING NEWS

At 6:12 p.m, the NCAA informed Division II institutions that they will be granted the ability to self-apply season-of-competition, and extension of eligibility waivers to student-athletes who have had their 2019-20 spring season canceled due to the Coronavirus. West Virginia Wesleyan spring sport athletes can be granted back their year of eligibility if they meet the following requirements:

(1) The student-athlete used a season of competition in a spring sport during the 2019-20 academic year;
(2) The student-athlete was eligible for competition when he or she competed during the 2019-20 academic year; and
(3) The student-athlete's season was ultimately canceled for reasons related to the COVID-19 outbreak.

The NCAA has also announced that student-athletes who self-apply a season of competition waiver, or an extension of eligibility waiver, can receive athletics financial aid without that counting towards team equivalency limits. Additionally, there will be a recruiting dead period implemented for all sports until April 15 effective immediately. This means that staff members are able to contact recruits via phone and email, but cannot engage in face-to-face in-person recruiting on or off campus. That ruling will be re-evaluated as April 15 nears.
