Wilfong Shines Again, WVWC Falls to Nationally-Ranked Glenville State

Courtney Wilfong delivered 17 points, six assists and four steals.

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. -- Courtney Wilfong turned in another impressive performance as the West Virginia Wesleyan (0-3) women's basketball team fell to nationally-ranked Glenville State (3-1), 98-53 at the Rockefeller Center in Buckhannon, W.Va. on Saturday (Jan. 16). 
 
Leaders for WVWC
Wilfong stuffed the stat sheet with a team-high 17 points, six assists and four steals. Cierra Tolbert hauled in eight rebounds and scored eight points. Brittany Stawovy added six points and six rebounds. 
 
Leaders for Glenville State
Re'Shawna Stone tallied a game-high 24 points while Zakiyah Winfield put together a double-double of 19 points and 12 rebounds.
 
Team Stats
Glenville State scored 34 second-chance points. Wesleyan shot 35.3 percent from the field (24-for-68). 
 
Inside the First Half
The Bobcats jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after back-to-back layups by Wilfong in the first minute of the contest. Wilfong drove in the paint for another layup with 4:33 remaining in the first quarter for a 10-7 WVWC lead. The Pioneers closed the opening quarter on a 15-2 run. 
 
Imani Jackson made her season debut and connected on a jumper with 8:26 left in the second quarter to trim the deficit to 23-16. Glenville State answered with an 11-0 run over the next 3:06. The Pioneers finished the first half on a 10-0 run for a 47-24 halftime advantage. 
 
Inside the Second Half
Glenville State widened the margin in the third quarter. WVWC freshman Taylor Dunbar made a layup in the waning seconds of the frame off a Wilfong assist as the Pioneers led 80-43. 
 
Up Next
WVWC women's basketball is scheduled to host Fairmont State in a rescheduled game from January 7 on Monday (Jan. 18) at 4 p.m. inside the Rockefeller Center.
