BUCKHANNON, W.Va. -- The West Virginia Wesleyan (0-1) men's basketball team got off to a hot start but fell short against nationally ranked Fairmont State (1-0) 110-85 in the 2020-21 season opener at Rockefeller Center on Thursday, Jan. 7.

Ross Young scored 12 points and ripped down eight rebounds.
Jaret Mullooly had a career-game with 12 points after draining four 3-pointers.
Cameron Ramage also scored 12 points while
Jaylin Reed rounded out the double-digit scorers for WVWC with 10 points.Â

Fairmont State finished 43 of 82 from the field (52.4 percent). WVWC shot 43.7 percent from the floor (31-71). The Falcons outrebounded the Bobcats 51-36. Wesleyan made 11 shots from behind the arc.Â

Inside the First Half
Daylin Lee made the first shot attempt of the 2021 season by burying a right side trifecta. Back-to-back
Ross Young layups pushed the Bobcats out to an early 7-0 spurt with 17:28 left in the first half.Â

Jayden Hibbitt connected on a wing triple to put West Virginia Wesleyan ahead 10-4 with 14:52 remaining. At the 11:31 mark, Fairmont State snagged its first lead of the contest (16-15) off a 3-pointer by Przemyslaw Golek.

The Falcons grabbed a double-digit lead at 28-18 with 8:39 left. On the next play, Mullooly in his first career start drilled a three to bring the Bobcats within seven. Fairmont State worked the ball inside and got to the free throw line to extend its lead to 54-36 at halftime.Â

Inside the Second Half
The Falcons picked up where they left off by hitting back-to-back 3-pointers in the first 45 seconds of the second half. Wesleyan also found an offensive groove to score 49 points in the second period.Â
