SALEM, W.Va. -- The West Virginia Wesleyan men's and women's swimming teams made the short trip north to Salem for a tri-meet with the Tigers and WVU Tech on Friday (Oct. 29).
The first event of the evening was the women's 200-medley relay where the squad of
Hannah Cook,
Alayna Crane,
Alienor Dalle and
Morgan Choffin finished in 2:02.90.
Amanda Schlor,
Jennifer Williams,
Gigi Fusco and
Zeinah Abdelsalam competed in the same event with a time of 2:06.31.
In the men's 200-medley relay, the group of Nick Gerosa,
Ben Esposito,
Jakob Bohland and
Marc Bennett finished in 1:49.19 followed by the relay team of
Jackson Igo,
Stephen Groves,
Santiago de Stefano Cavazos and
Russ Sutton (2:01.64).
To the distance events where
Lillie Archer won the 1000-free with a time of 12:26.18. Choffin won the 200-free by turning in a 2:04.53 performance. Abdelsalam was third with a time of 2:12.84. In the men's 200-free,
Marc Bennett touched the wall in 1:58.09.
Emily Nutter (41.44) and
Teresa Juncewicz (41.57) finished neck-and-neck in the women's 50-back. Gerosa claimed second place in the men's 50 back with a time of 27.85. Williams nearly took first place in the women's 50-breast after a time of 34.45 followed by Schlor at 35.53. Esposito (31.53) and Groves (32.25) were close together in the men's 50-breast.
Dalle won the women's 100-fly with a time of 1:03.35 and Fusco finished in fourth at 1:15.75. De Stefano Cavazos grabbed third place during the men's 100-fly by registering a 58.01.
Choffin (26.78) barely edged out her teammate
Hannah Cook (26.80) in the women's 50-free. Bohland (23.55) and Igo (27.23) battled in the men's 50-free. Dalle finished the 100-free in 1:00.62 for second place with
Morgan Bennet (1:00.70) right behind her.
In a competitive women's 100-back, Crane (1:06.45) and Cook (1:07.14) finished near each other. Gerosa turned in a time of 1:00.87 in the men's 100-back. Williams (1:17.21) snagged second place in the women's 100-breast and Crane collected a time of 1:24.70. Esposito (1:09.52) and Groves (1:11.94) swam the men's 100-breast.
During another distance event, Archer (6:08.13) and Abdelsalam (6:11.57) displayed outstanding endurance. Bennett registered a time of 5:28.20 in the men's 500-free.
Bennet earned first place in the women's 50-fly after an impressive time of 30.03. Bohland (26.13) and Sutton (30.83) competed in the 50-fly on the men's side. Schlor fought for second place during the 200-IM with a time of 2:27.10. De Stefano Cazavos finished the men's 200-IM in 2:16.18.
The Bobcat women's 400-free relay team of Choffin, Cook, Bennet and Dalle put a bow on the road meet with a win after a final time of 3:55.23.
