Volleyball Preview: Concord & West Virginia State

The Bobcats start a four-match stretch versus MEC South opponents.

The Basics
The West Virginia Wesleyan volleyball team will play at Concord on Tuesday (Nov. 2) before returning home for a battle versus West Virginia State on Friday (Nov. 5). Both matches will begin at 7 p.m.
 
Quick Hits
  • Lexis Tatum leads WVWC with 2.11 kills/set. Tatum posted a double-double in kills and digs versus Wheeling on Oct. 29.
  • Joelle Lalla's 0.97 blocks/set rank fourth out of all Mountain East Conference players. Lalla has 16 block solos and 50 block assists this fall. The sophomore from Columbus, Ohio leads Wesleyan with 136.0 points.
  • Michela Ayers leads the Bobcats with 115 kills.
  • Setter Payton Hefner has totaled 345 assists. Hefner has smashed 27 service aces.
  • Maddi Carpenter has accumulated 178 assists and 19 service aces.
  • Freshman Milan Reynolds has accumulated 10 block solos and 21 block assists.

Scouting Concord
The Bobcats knocked off Concord in four sets on Oct. 1 at the Rockefeller Center. The Mountain Lions are 6-15 overall and 2-10 in MEC competition. CU is currently one game behind Wesleyan in the MEC South standings.
 
Hannah Steele ranks fifth in the MEC in kills/set with 3.59. Steele is fifth overall in the conference in points/set with 4.06. Libero Kelli Ellison has snagged 345 digs in 70 sets, which is the fourth-highest mark in the MEC.
 
Kate Dillon is in her 13th season at the helm of Concord volleyball.
 
Scouting West Virginia State
The Yellow Jackets have posted a 23-3 overall record and have won 11 out of 12 MEC matches. West Virginia State defeated the Bobcats in Institute on Oct. 8.
 
Jenna Dufresne's 4.43 kills/set is the second-highest total in the MEC. The senior from Bedford, Ind., ranks second in points/set (4.77) and fourth in hitting percentage (.314). Natalie Beer's 0.99 blocks/set is the third-highest mark in the conference.
 
The Yellow Jackets are led by Kris Kern.
 
Up Next
Wesleyan will wrap up the regular season next week with three matches. WVWC has two road MEC matches versus Glenville State and Davis & Elkins. Senior Day will be on Nov. 13 versus Salem at 10 a.m.
