Football Preview: Glenville State

Bobcat football is prepared to host Glenville State for Senior Day at Ross Field on Saturday, Nov. 13.

The Basics
The West Virginia Wesleyan football team plays host to Glenville State for Senior Day on Saturday (Nov. 13) at 1p.m. at Ross Field.
 
WVWC will honor its seniors before the game including Mason Brubeck, Shaq Freeman-Parks, Chase Goldsmith, Spencer Jenkins, Jujuan Linzy, Peter Ofori-Nuamah, Josh Stewart, Devin Taylor, Kobe Vinegar, Briar Wilfong and Dana Young.

  • The first meeting between West Virginia Wesleyan and Glenville State on the gridiron was back in 1909.
  • The interim tag was removed on Sept. 15 as Dwayne Martin officially became the head coach of the WVWC football program.

  • WVWC has had more time of possession than its opponent in each the last two weeks.
  • Jujuan Linzy tied a season-high with seven catches for 75 yards last week against the Yellow Jackets. He caught five passes for 96 yards against West Liberty on Sept. 25. Linzy added three catches for 25 yards at Wheeling. He has 29 total receptions on the season for 291 yards.
  • Logan led WVWC in tackles versus WLU with 10 total tackles including 1.0 tackle for loss. Logan added two tackles for loss and a sack at Wheeling on Oct. 2.
  • Kobe Vinegar and Shaq Freeman-Parks both recorded blocks on punts by West Liberty on Sept. 25. Vinegar is the team's leading tackler (45.0 tackles).
  • Devin Taylor caught four passes for 98 yards and three touchdowns at Concord on Sept. 18.
  • Isaac (Ike) Dove forced a fumble (strip sack) and had an interception versus the Mountain Lions on Sept. 18.
  • Cameron Lomax recorded a team-high 11 tackles in the season opener.
  • Trey Milam, Jake Folland, Vinegar, Amir Franklin-Branch, Mason Brubeck and Mike Sawyer have been selected as the 2021 fall season team captains.
Scouting Glenville State
The Glenville State Pioneers are 2-7 on the season after a 24-14 loss win to Fairmont State on Saturday (Nov. 13).
 
Running back Alfred Menjor has rushed for 711 yards on 159 carries and has found the endzone six times. Javon Butler has been the leading receiver for the Pioneers with 41 catches for 717 yards and five touchdowns.
 
On the defensive side, Seth Major paces GSC with 85 tackles, including 11.0 for loss. Brandon Penn is nationally ranked with his six interceptions and Jonathan St. Jacque has racked up a team-high 6.5 sacks.
 
Mike Kellar in his third season as the head coach at Glenville State after previous stops at Concord, California (Pa.) and Lenoir-Rhyne.
