The Basics
The West Virginia Wesleyan women's basketball team will open the season with non-conference contests in Buckhannon versus Kentucky State and Salem. The 'Cats will play the Thorobreds on Sunday (Nov. 14) at 2 p.m. and will square off versus the Tigers on Wednesday (Nov. 17) at 5:30 p.m. in the Rockefeller Center.

Quick Hits
- The Bobcats posted a record of 6-11 overall in the spring of 2021. WVWC defeated West Virginia State 100-84 on the road in the first round of the Mountain East Conference tournament.
- Fairmont, W.Va., native Courtney Wilfong returns to the hardwood for Wesleyan. Wilfong averaged 9.6 points per game and totaled 54 assists in the spring of 2021.
- Symphonie Bryant-Brown shined in her first season with Wesleyan, averaging 8.9 points per game. Bryant-Brown sank 42 free throws, the most out of any WVWC player in the spring season.
- Malaika Kimmons hauled in 34 offensive rebounds and 75 defensive rebounds last season. The junior from Apex, N.C., averaged 6.4 rebounds per game and 7.6 points per game.
- Cierra Tolbert led the team with 8.0 rebounds per game. Tolbert scored 7.3 points per game in her 13 appearances.
- Cydney Lapczynski appeared in all 28 games including seven starts in the 2019-20 season. Lapczynski dished out 26 assists and picked up 15 steals.
- Akron, Ohio native Imani Jackson started 17 games in the 2019-20 season. Jackson passed 30 assists and racked up 17 steals that season.
- Carrie Barnett, Ariana Harmon, Kamryn Williamson, Jabria Bruce, Tamera Maple and Amira Layeni return for WVWC.
- The Bobcats welcome three new faces: Shelby Genes, Electra Allembert and Daveona Hatchell.
- Brett Vincent begins his first season at the helm of WVWC women's basketball. Vincent completed a nine-year stint (2012-21) as the head men's basketball coach at Chowan University in Murfreesboro, N.C., where he is the all-time wins leader.
- Courtney Haines joined the WVWC women's basketball team as an assistant coach in October of 2021. Haines was a four-year starter at Penn State Fayette and earned a spot on the USCAA D-II All-American team in 2017.

Scouting Kentucky State
The Thorobreds competed in nine games in the COVID-shortened 2020 season. Kentucky State defeated Bluefield State College and Miles College. The Thorobreds traveled to Western Michigan and dropped an exhibition game versus the Broncos, 95-58 on Nov. 9.

Senior guard Sarah Woghiren led Kentucky State with 10.7 points per game in the spring of 2021. The Thorobreds return their leading rebounder, Andrea Wallace, who grabbed 7.6 rebounds per game last season. Daytona State transfer Ja'Nia Thompson was the Kentucky State leading scorer versus Western Michigan with 13 points.

Kentucky State is led by Terrance Slater. Slater begins his seventh season at the helm of Thorobred women's basketball.

Scouting Salem
The Tigers played five games in the 2020-21 season. Salem returns senior guard Daniela Quesada, who started all five games and led the team in assists. Quesada averaged 10.0 points per game her sophomore season in 2019-20. Senior Nerea Arambarri Fernandez posted a 9.3 point per game average in the 2019-20 season.

Cody Gilmore begins his fourth season in charge of Salem women's basketball. Gilmore was previously an assistant coach at Glenville State College.

The Bobcats will begin MEC play and will welcome Frostburg State to Buckhannon on Nov. 20 for a 2 p.m. tipoff. Wesleyan's first road game is scheduled for Nov. 23 at Fairmont State for a 5:30 p.m. start.
