Bobcat Seniors Take Ross Field for Last Time

WVWC football got off to another strong start before Glenville State came out victorious in the season finale.

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. -- The West Virginia Wesleyan (0-11) football team led after the first quarter after scoring on its first drive during Senior Day before Glenville State (3-7) won the game by a final score of 43-13 at Ross Field on Saturday (Nov. 13).
 
WVWC Leaders
Mason Brubeck ran for 48 yards and a touchdown. Jujuan Linzy snagged six catches for 34 yards. Deontre Logan made 13 total tackles including two for loss. Ah'Mareon Lee added a tackle for loss with his eight total tackles. 
 
Glenville State Leaders
Tim Heltzel threw for 290 yards off of 16 completions for four touchdowns and one interception (DeQuandre Edwards). Javon Butler caught four passes for 132 yards and two touchdowns. Brandon Penn and D'Andre Brown made interceptions for the Pioneers.
 
Inside the First Half
Jamir Boyd completed a third down pass to Dariuse Cooper into GSC territory on Wesleyan's first drive. Following a 15 yard roughing the passer penalty on Glenville State, Brubeck busted a 25 yard run to the Pioneer 5 yard line. Brubeck punched it into the endzone a play later for an early 7-0 with 11:02 left in the first quarter. WVWC led 7-3 after one quarter. 
 
In the second quarter, Glenville State scored on back-to-back long pass plays to Javon Butler. First with 12:43 left from 41 yards away and with 10:17 to go in the half on a 61 yard connection.
 
An interception set up an 11 yard touchdown run by Alfred Menjor. All of a sudden with 9:25 to play in the second quarter, the Pioneers jumped out to a 24-7 lead. 
 
The Bobcats put together a methodical drive near the end of the first half. Boyd capped off the drive by scrambling five yards for a touchdown to cut the deficit to 24-13 with 1:25 remaining. Glenville State's Josh Jones drilled a 28 yard field goal as time expired in the first half.
 
Inside the Second Half
GSC controlled the time of possession in the second half including on a drive that took off over seven minutes in the third quarter. Menjor caught a 9 yard touchdown pass from Heltzel with 5:58 left in the third quarter. 
 
A touchdown and a safety in the fourth quarter for Glenville State rounded off the scoring.
