Women's Basketball Preview: Davis & Elkins & Charleston

WVWC women's basketball travels to nearby Davis & Elkins on Wednesday (Feb. 10) before returning home to host nationally-ranked Charleston.

The Basics
The West Virginia Wesleyan women's basketball team is scheduled to battle nearby Davis & Elkins away from home on Wednesday (Feb. 10) at 5 p.m. before returning to the Rockefeller Center to play host to Charleston on Saturday (Feb. 13) at 2 p.m.
 
Quick Hits
• Junior forward Malaika Kimmons recorded a double-double of 17 points, and 10 rebounds in a 74-54 victory over Wheeling on Wednesday (Feb. 3). 
• Senior guard Brittany Stawovy scored 17 points, grabbed nine rebounds and snagged three steals against Wheeling on Wednesday (Feb. 3). 
• Freshman Symphonie Bryant-Brown provided 16 points off of the bench to help propel WVWC past Wheeling on Wednesday (Feb. 3). 
• Stawovy recorded her second double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds at Notre Dame (Ohio) in a 76-66 loss on Monday, Feb. 1. 
• Stawovy scored a season-high 27 points and finished 10-for-10 at the free throw line in an 86-73 victory over Alderson Broaddus on Saturday (Jan. 30). 
• Cierra Tolbert has compiled back-to-back double-double performances (16 points & 13 rebounds vs. AB on Jan. 30 and 10 points & 12 rebounds at NDC on Feb. 1). 
• Senior forward Abi Gabauer bested her previous career-high of 24 points that was set her freshman year with 26 points against West Virginia State on Wednesday (Jan. 20). 
• Sophomore guard Courtney Wilfong has distributed six assists in three games this season, the latest occurrence was on Monday, Feb. 1 at Notre Dame (Ohio). 
• Vicky Bullett enters her fifth season as the West Virginia Wesleyan head coach. The former All-American at Maryland and former WNBA No. 1 draft pick played six seasons in the WNBA. Bullett is a member of the Maryland Athletic Hall of Fame and Women's Basketball Hall of Fame. She helped Team USA to a gold medal in 1988. 
 
Scouting Davis & Elkins
Davis & Elkins is 2-8 overall this season coming off a 66-56 win at Wheeling on Saturday (Feb. 6). 
 
Senior guard Jessica Eadsforth-Yates is averaging 8.6 points per game and has collected 12 steals so far this season. She scored 16 points and distributed six assists in the victory over Wheeling. 
 
Freshman forward Marissa Berlin is averaging 8.0 points per game as well as 7.2 rebounds per game. Berlin put together a double-double of 17 points and 19 rebounds to help the Senators defeat Wheeling on Saturday, Feb. 6. 
 
Rachel Swartz is in her first season as the head coach of the Davis & Elkins women's basketball program. Prior to D&E, Swartz was an assistant coach at Everett Community College (Wash.).
 
Scouting Charleston
Charleston is currently ranked third in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Division-II poll and first in the Atlantic Region poll. The Golden Eagles are 10-0 after rolling past Wheeling, 82-53 on Monday (Feb. 8). 
 
Erykah Russell is averaging a double-double of 20.6 points and 12.0 rebounds a game. Brooklyn Pannell currently sits at a team-best 25.1 points per game and 5.0 boards per game after a 41-point performance versus Wheeling. 
 
Tianni Kelly enters her first season as the head coach of the Charleston women's basketball program.

West Virginia Wesleyan women's basketball is scheduled to continue its MEC slate at Glenville State on Wednesday, Feb. 17 at 5 p.m. before traveling to West Virginia State on Saturday, Feb. 20 for a 2 p.m. tip-off.
