BUCKHANNON, W.Va. -- The West Virginia Wesleyan volleyball team (2-0) swept Concord (0-3) in straight sets on Tuesday (Feb. 9) night at the Rockefeller Center in Buckhannon, W.Va.

"When we control the ball across the net, we have plenty of hitters to put the ball away," head coach
Nancy Wheeler said. "Our girls practiced hard as a team all week and executed well tonight."

WVWC Leaders
Lexis Tatum, a freshman from Gahanna, Ohio, led the Bobcat offensive attack, posting 17 kills. WVWC outside hitter
Emily Doyle added 13 kills and swung 55 percent.

Setter
Payton Hefner distributed the ball effectively to the Bobcat attackers for 47 assists.

"I thought our team did a great job of bringing positive energy to the gym tonight," Hefner said. "We clicked and played well together."

Playing in her first collegiate match, freshman
Autumn Molenhouse led Wesleyan with 20 digs.

"My mentality was to not let the attacking players' balls hit the floor," Molenhouse said.

Concord Leaders
Mountain Lions middle hitter Sheridan Herron led her team with eight kills. Junior setter Imani Rodgers led CU in sets with 11.

Libero Lindsay Maddox posted 14 digs, while middle hitter Amber Hall accumulated four block assists against WVWC.Â

Inside the First Set
The Bobcats came out on fire and claimed the first six points of the set. Wesleyan was in control of the first set and led the entire set. The Bobcats won the set convincingly, 25-13.Â

Three Bobcat attackers, Tatum,
Anaya Hyman and
Lauryn Antolock each had three kills in the opening set. Doyle added two service aces and Tatum had one ace in the first set.
Joelle Lalla had two block solos and two block assists in the opening set.

Inside the Second Set
Wesleyan kept the momentum going and cruised to a 25-12 set two victory. Hefner had 19 assists in the set. Molenhouse picked up nine digs and five receptions in the second frame.Â

Inside the Third Set
Both teams exchanged leads four times in the third set. Wesleyan never trailed by more than one point. With the score 18-17 in favor of the Bobcats, Doyle connected on a kill with an assist from Hefner. WVWC would go on to win five consecutive points and the third set, 25-18. Doyle powered Wesleyan's offense in the final set with eight kills.

The Bobcats are scheduled to return to the court on Friday, Feb. 12 in Institute, W.Va. at West Virginia State. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
