Volleyball Spring Season Concludes in MEC Quarterfinal Match

Bobcat volleyball drops quarterfinal match to the Senators.

ELKINS, W.Va. -- The West Virginia Wesleyan (6-5) volleyball team fell in the quarterfinal round of the Mountain East Conference Tournament to Davis & Elkins by a match score of 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-23) at the McDonnell Center in Elkins, W.Va.
 
WVWC Leaders
Senior outside hitter Emily Doyle continued her dominance against Davis & Elkins. Doyle smashed 14 kills and led the Bobcat attack. The Valrico, Fla. native scored double-digit kills in all three matches against D&E this year and averaged 13 kills per match playing the Senators.
 
Three WVWC attackers each smashed eight kills: Lexis Tatum, Anaya Hyman, and Lauryn Antolock. Autumn Molenhouse and Hyman each had a service ace.
 
Maddi Carpenter facilitated the Wesleyan offense with 41 assists. Carpenter added three digs and three block assists to her stat line. Molenhouse led the Bobcats with 20 digs.
 
Davis & Elkins Leaders
Molly Jandris led the Senators with 15 kills. Brilane Manchego had 42 assists and eight digs. Macie Magallon had multiple service aces. Libero Cynthia Arango finished with 13 digs.
 
Inside the First Set
Wesleyan battled with Davis & Elkins and held a 10-7 lead early in the set. D&E scored two consecutive points to cut the Bobcats' lead to one. The two teams traded the next four points to make the score 12-11 in favor of WVWC.
 
The Senators went on a 4-0 run to take a 15-12 lead. Davis & Elkins extended their lead to five late in the set to make the score 19-14. The Bobcats clawed back into the set and won the next four points to cut the deficit to one point. A kill from Tatum set the score at 23-22 in favor of Davis & Elkins. The Senators closed the set winning the next two points. D&E won set one 25-22.
 
Inside the Second Set
The second set was highly contested and featured seven tie scores. Wesleyan kept the score close and was down one point late in the set with the score at 18-17 in favor of the Senators. D&E won three consecutive points to extend their lead to four points. Wesleyan was not able to close the gap and Davis & Elkins was victorious in set two 25-22.
 
Inside the Third Set
Wesleyan battled in the third set and held a 14-12 lead. Molenhouse smashed a service ace to give the 'Cats a three point lead. Davis & Elkins tied the set and scored the next three points. The MEC teams exchanged points to put the score at 18-18. 
 
D&E went on another three-point run. Wesleyan responded and scored the next two points thanks to kills from Antolock and Hyman. D&E extended their lead to two points to make the score 23-21 Senators. WVWC closed the margin and trailed 24-23. But D&E won the match point and took the third set 25-23.
