WVWC beat the Davis & Elkins Senators 4-3 behind strong performances from the bottom of the lineup.

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. -- The West Virginia Wesleyan women's tennis team faced off against the Senators from Davis & Elkins on Friday (April 16). Jackie Zavala, Maddie Chen and Hannah Spruce provided excellent performances en route to a 4-3 victory for the Bobcats.

"We showed a lot of guts to pull out the doubles point," head coach Jay Evans said. "We won a few critical matches at the bottom of the lineup to take the win today."

In doubles, WVWC dropped the first match at No.1. The 'Cats needed big performances from the bottom of the lineup in order to secure the doubles point. Hannah Spruce and Jackie Zavala delivered by dominating the match at No.3 winning 6-1 to tie it up.

With the doubles point now being decided at No.2, Molly Hull and Maddie Chen clutched up for the 'Cats and won 6-4 to give Wesleyan the doubles point.

In singles, WVWC dropped the top three matches and after the exciting doubles performance found themselves behind 3-1.

The Bobcats did not back down as Zavala stormed back from a set down at No.6 to win the second set 6-4. Zavala and her opponent Elysia Cain went back and forth in the third and needed six tiebreak points to decide the outcome.
