MEC Women's Soccer Tournament Preview: Notre Dame (Ohio)

The Lady Bobcats will take on Notre Dame (Ohio) in the opening round of the MEC Tournament.

The Basics
The West Virginia Wesleyan (4-2-2) women's soccer team is the No. 6 seed in the Mountain East Conference Tournament and will face No. 3 seed Notre Dame (Ohio) on the road in the quarterfinal round on Monday, April 19.

The Falcons are coming off a 1-1 tie against Fairmont State at Mueller Field on Friday, April 16.

Ellie Gess has scored two goals for NDC and Jordan Pasalaqua has been a mainstay in goal for the Falcons with 31 saves this season.

Mike Shiels is in his 18th season as head coach of the Notre Dame (Ohio) women's soccer program.

Last Time vs. Notre Dame (Ohio)
The West Virginia Wesleyan (2-1-0) women's soccer team was aided by two second half goals in a 3-2 win over Notre Dame (Ohio) (2-1-1) on Sunday (March 21) at Mueller Field. The victory marked the first time since 2015 that Wesleyan women's soccer won at Notre Dame (Ohio).

In the 16th minute, MaKatlyn Tucker sent the ball to Beth Burchett in the box. Making her first collegiate start, Burchett knocked it into the bottom right corner of the net to put WVWC on the board first.

Regina Ploplis answered for NDC during the 34th minute with a goal of her own to even the tally at 1-1 heading into halftime.

The score remained deadlocked until the 73rd minute when Olivia Simmons stepped in front of a pass before sending a through ball to Tucker, who kicked it into the right corner of the net.

Only a couple of minutes later, the two WVWC captains united for another Bobcat goal. Chrystal Posada connected a long pass through the air into the box where Kayla Fay headed it past the Falcon keeper for a 3-1 advantage.

Alyssa Wright converted a late goal for Notre Dame (Ohio) in the 88th minute, but the Falcons ran out of time. Ally Moore totaled five saves for the Bobcats.

Recent MEC Tournament Success
WVWC women's soccer defeated Charleston in the quarterfinal round of the 2019 MEC Tournament before falling to Fairmont State, 2-0 in the semifinals.

The Lady Bobcats won the MEC Tournament in 2017 and 2018.
