MEC Tournament Quarterfinal Ends on Notre Dame (Ohio) Golden Goal

WVWC women's soccer was edged 1-0 in overtime as the 2021 spring season comes to a close.

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- The West Virginia Wesleyan (4-3-2) women's soccer team was outlasted in overtime, 1-0 by No. 3 seed Notre Dame (Ohio) (5-2-2) in the MEC Tournament quarterfinals at Mueller Field on Monday, April 19.
 
Only five shots were taken between the two sides in the first half with Wesleyan outshooting NDC 3-2 at halftime.
 
The Falcons were aggressive in the second half. WVWC goalkeeper Ally Moore made saves in the 52nd and 59th minute on shots from Ellie Gess of Notre Dame (Ohio). Senior captain Chrysyal Posada fired a shot that sailed high in the 79th minute.
 
At the end of regulation, the match remained in a scoreless stalemate.
 
NDC outshot Wesleyan by a 4-0 margin in the first half of overtime but the 0-0 deadlock continued into another half of overtime.
 
In the 104th minute, off of a corner kick from the Falcons' Katja Josipovic, Gess connected and her shot found the back of the net for the golden goal.
 
The West Virginia Wesleyan women's soccer 2021 spring season has reached its conclusion. The Lady Bobcats finished the campaign at 4-3-2 overall in a season that featured highlights such as Wesleyan's first win at Notre Dame (Ohio) since 2015 on March 21 and senior captain Kayla Fay's two goals in 11 minutes in WVWC's 3-0 home win over Alderson Broaddus on March 30.
