Softball Splits at Glenville State

Wesleyan scored five unanswered runs in game one before a 7th inning rally came up just short in game two.

GLENVILLE, W.Va. -- The West Virginia Wesleyan (17-11) softball team rallied late in game two, but turned in a doubleheader split at Glenville State (11-30) at the Sue Morris Sports Complex on Saturday (May 1).

Game One (WVWC 5, Glenville State 2)
The Pioneers struck first on a Karra Smith home run to left in the opening frame.

WVWC responded with five unanswered runs scattered across the next four innings. In the top of the second, Lauryn King crushed a solo shot over the left field fence for her fifth homer of the season.

Molly Osborne singled home Grace Hightower to tie the game 2-2 in the top of the third. A Kelley Bourne double put Wesleyan in front, 3-2 after four innings. Bourne picked up two more RBI on a sac-fly to center in the top of the fifth.

Abigail O'Shields (11-4) settled in to only allow three hits in the complete game victory. King was 2-for-3 at the plate.

Game Two (Glenville State 3, WVWC 2)
Glenville State took a 3-0 lead into the seventh inning while the Bobcats put together a late rally.

With two outs and the bases loaded, Osborne rippled a single to center as Kelley Bourne and Shelby Kennedy scored.

Hightower represented the tying run at second base and Osborne was the potential go-ahead run at first. Brooke Clark grounded into a fielder's choice as the Pioneers held on.

Osborne and Grace Smith finished 2-for-3 at the plate.
