BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. --Â West Virginia Wesleyan sophomore pitcher
Abigail O'Shields was named Mountain East Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week, the league announced on Monday (May 3).
The Dagsboro, Del., native won all five of her starts last week. O'Shields was a workhorse in the circle logging 33.0 innings over five games including a complete game shutout of West Virginia State on Sunday (May 2) with six strikeouts. O'Shields pitched back-to-back complete games at Frostburg State on Tuesday (April 27) and against WVSU on Sunday (May 2).
This season, O'Shields is 13-4 overall with a 2.38 earned run average and 83 strikeouts. The southpaw shared the weekly honor with Makenzie Amend of West Liberty.
WVWC softball will play West Liberty in its first game of the MEC Tournament at the James I. Moyer Complex in Salem, Va., on Friday (May 7) at 2:30 p.m.
