SALEM, Va. -- The West Virginia Wesleyan (20-13) softball season came to a close after Frostburg State (25-16) advanced by a 2-1 margin in the Mountain East Conference Tournament at the James I. Moyer Complex on Saturday (May 8).Â
All of the scoring occurred in the third inning. Grace Smith put Wesleyan on the board first with a single up the middle to score Grace Hightower.Â
Frostburg State answered in the bottom half of the third on a 2-run single to right field off of the bat of Taylor McCarty.
WVWC placed the tying and go-ahead runs on base in the top of the seventh inning.
Bella Posey drew a leadoff walk and Hightower beat out an infield single to put runners at first and second with nobody out. Shawna Leonard rebounded in the circle for FSU and struck out the next three batters to end the game.Â
Abigail O'Shields (14-6) pitched valiantly only allowing one earned run with six strikeouts.
