Bobcats Drop Senior Night Match to Davis & Elkins

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. -- The West Virginia Wesleyan volleyball team (7-23, 3-13) was defeated by Davis & Elkins (15-13, 8-8) on Friday (Nov. 4) night at the Rockefeller Center in Buckhannon, W.Va.
 
WVWC Leaders
Hope Arce-Reed led the Bobcats with nine kills. Jayla Cowherd and Mya Bajramovic each had six kills. Payton Hefner passed a team-leading 13 assists. Najla Bray led the Bobcats with five blocks. Abigail Rogers had a team-leading 11 digs. 

Inside Set One
Davis & Elkins jumped out to an 8-2 lead to begin the first set. WVWC cut the deficit to five on a kill from Arce-Reed and trailed 11-6. The Senators nine straight points before winning set one, 25-13. 
 
 Inside Set Two
After eight possible points, the second set was tied 4-4. D&E fired off five straight points and led 9-4. Following a timeout from coach Nancy Wheeler, the two teams exchanged the next four possessions and the Senators led 11-6. 
 
WVWC took six of the next nine points and trailed 14-12. After each team scored two points the deficit remained two and the Bobcats trailed 16-14. Following a service error from Riley France, Lalla and Arce-Reed each had a kill and WVWC trailed 17-16. 
 
The Senators responded with two straight points and led 19-16. Following a timeout from coach Nancy Wheeler, the Senators took a point before Jayla Cowherd had back-to-back kills and the Bobcats trailed 20-18. D&E took five of the final six points and won set two, 25-19. 
 
Inside Set Three
The Bobcats led 4-2 to begin the third set. The Senators scored three straight points and led 5-4. D&E took four of the next seven points and led 9-7. The Bobcats fired off five straight points including two kills from Bajramovic and led 12-9. 
 
Following a timeout from coach Jordan Willis, the Senators took four of the next six points and trailed 14-13. Following a kill from Arce-Reed, D&E scored four straight points and led 17-15. The Senators took four of the next five points and led 21-16. 
 
The two teams exchanged the next six possessions and the Bobcats trailed 24-18. WVWC scored four straight points and trailed 24-22 before the Senators took the final point of the third set and won, 25-22.
