Volleyball Preview: Bobcat Classic

WVWC volleyball is set to host a six-team event in Buckhannon this weekend.

The Basics
The West Virginia Wesleyan Volleyball team will host the Bobcat Classic Friday (Sept. 16) and Saturday (Sept. 17) at the Rockefeller Center in Buckhannon. The Bobcats will play Friday at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. versus Glenville State and WVU Tech. WVWC wraps up play in the Bobcat classic on Saturday at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. versus Kentucky State and Alderson Broaddus.

Scouting Glenville State
Glenville State is 8-3 on the year. The Pioneers are led by Kataryzna Niderla at the net with 116 kills and 24 blocks.  Julia King has tossed 204 assists on the year and leads Glenville State with 18 service aces, Sarah Grainger has added 128 assists. Lindsay Winkler leads the Pioneers defensively with 139 digs. The Pioneers are coached by second-year head coach, Kevin John.
 
Scouting WVU Tech
West Virginia Tech is 3-8 on the year. Brooklyn Cook (70), Coralys Maldonado Rivera (63), and former WVWC Bobcat Madison Boswell (60) lead the Golden Bears offensive attack in kills. Julie McClanahan (145), and freshman Ally Morris (144) lead WVU Tech in assists. Defensively, sophomore Brooke Presley leads the Golden Bears with 134 digs. Amber Linville begins her fourth year as the head coach at WVU Tech.
 
Scouting Kentucky State
Kentucky State enters the Bobcat Classic with a 2-10 record. Shaska Davis leads the Thorobreds at the net with 72 kills. Audi Hicks has tossed a team leading 147 assists and 19 service aces. Defensively, Kendall Washington (21) and Nehemiah Colbert (20) lead Kentucky State in blocks. Amaya Johnson has 87 digs on the year. Eileen Butts is in her first season as head coach of the Thorobreds.
 
Scouting Alderson Broaddus
Alderson Broaddus is 2-3 on the year. Offensively AB is led by Jocie Fisher at the net with 62 kills, while Natalie Holter chips in with 31. Kaitlyn Jager has tossed 96 assists and 25 digs. Jordan Grimes leads the Battlers with 48 digs, and Fisher has added 35 digs.  Julia Erickson is in her first season as head coach at Alderson Broaddus.
