Women's Volleyball WVWC Sports Information

Volleyball Preview: Mercyhurst, Gannon, East Stroudsburg & Edinboro

The Bobcats will play four PSAC schools in Western Pennsylvania beginning on Friday (Sept. 9).

The Basics

The West Virginia Wesleyan volleyball team will travel to Erie, Pa. on Friday (Sept. 9) to take on Mercyhurst at 3 p.m. and Gannon at 7 p.m. The Bobcats will continue play on Saturday (Sept. 10) at Edinboro, Pa., to take on East Stroudsburg before wrapping up their weekend versus Edinboro on Saturday afternoon.

Scouting Mercyhurst

The Mercyhurst Lakers are 1-5 on the year. The Lakers front line features a duel-threat at the net with Paige Miller and Kate Hennessy. Miller leads Mercyhurst with 43 kills and Hennessy has added 42. Alexa Mitchell leads the lakers with 69 kills, while Isa McCaffrey has 68. Kaitlin Murphy adds verticality at the net and has stuffed 12.0 blocks. The Lakers are coached by Ryan Patton, who is entering his 19th season at the helm. 

Scouting Gannon

The Golden Knights are 4-3 on the season and are ranked No. 25 in the latest AVCA Divison II Top 25 poll. Sam Deinek leads Gannon with 82 kills. Freshman Bengisu Arsian looks to continue her successful start to her college career. Arsian has passed 223 assists in seven matches. On the defensive end, Emma Hall leads Gannon with 136 digs and Sophia Glabus is Gannon's block leader with 19.0 total blocks. Matt Darling starts his 16th season in charge of the Gannon volleyball program. 

Scouting East Stroudsburg

East Stroudsburg has a record of 3-5 after the first two weeks of play. Sophomore Makaela McComas leads the Warriors in assists (93) and service aces (12). Middle Blocker Anna Coulter looks to stay strong at the net and leads East Stroudsburg with (18.0) blocks on the year. Kaylee LoPresto has accumulated 74 kills. Tricia Melfy enters her second season as the head coach of East Stroudsburg volleyball.  

Scouting Edinboro

The Fighting Scots have posted a 6-2 record to open the 2022 season. Bella Burrelli leads Edinboro in Kills (67) and services aces (10). Alicia Eldredge leads the Fighting Scots with 237 assists on the year. Sally Sterkel looks to continue her dominance at the net. Sterkel has registered 25.0 blocks on the season. Missy Soboleski enters her 17th year at the helm of the Edinboro Fighting Scots.

West Virginia Wesleyan volleyball returns to the floor on Sept. 16 for the Bobcat Classic, hosted at WVWC. The Bobcats will have matches between Glenville State, WVU Tech, Kentucky State and Alderson Broaddus between Friday (Sept. 16) and Saturday (Sept. 17).
