Sluggish Start Hurts Bobcats As They Fall To Charleston

CHARLESTON, W.Va - The Bobcats Men's Basketball team lost to the University of Charleston 82-57 in the capital city on Wednesday night. The Golden Eagles shot 51.8% from field to carry them to the win.

UC gained control of the game from the tip. They would hit four three-pointers to start the game and gain an early 12-4 lead. The Golden Eagles took advantage of the shooting struggles of the Bobcats, going on multiple scoring runs while Wesleyan was in a drought.

The Bobcats would fall behind 27-10 at the under-10 media timeout. Charleston didn't step off the gas, converting on layups and shots from behind the arc. They took a comfortable 47-21 lead into halftime.

Charleston carried their consistent scoring into the 2nd half. Wesleyan matched them bucket for bucket early on, with Darius Green hitting a pair of layups and a midrange jumper. The Bobcats got back within 20 right after the under-10 media timeout until UC continued their hot shooting from three-point range.

The Golden Eagles stayed steady throughout the remainder of the game, closing out the Bobcats 82-57. Darius Green led all scorers with 19 points and 10 rebounds. D'Vante Rivera put together 13 points on 6-10 shooting from the field. CJ Meredith led the Golden Eagles with 15 points. Charleston had 11 different players in the scoring column.

Wesleyan next plays at home on Saturday against West Virginia State at 4 p.m.
