Lady Bobcats Pick Up First Conference Win Against Davis and Elkins
Buckhannon, W.Va.- The West Virginia Wesleyan Bobcats picked up their first conference win of the season at home against Davis and Elkins College. The Bobcats had coame off a 6-game losing streak while traveling on the road against tough conference play. The Lady Bobcats swept the Senators of Davis and Elkins 3-0. The team had a special breast cancer awareness night in the Rockefeller Center which honored names of people affected by the illness at the college, a 50-50 raffle to win a $25 gift card, and pink decorations all around the gymnasium.
In the first set of the match, the Bobcats came out strong, winning 25-13. The Bobcats took their momentum in the first set to win sets 2 and 3, 25-14 and 25-16. The offensive attack for the Bobcats was led by freshman,
Olivia Albrecht, who totaled 11 kills. Senior
Hope Arce-Reed, contributed with 10 kills as well as freshman
Bhrooke Axe, with 8 kills. Setter,
Sophie Gerlach totaled an impressive 30 assists to aid the Bobcats's offense as well. With only two total lead changes during the entire match, the Bobcats dominated at home to secure their first conference win.
The volleyball team will be traveling Friday, Oct. 13 to take on the Cardinals of Wheeling University. Match is set to tip off at 7 p.m. in the McDonough Center.
