Wesleyan Drops Road Match to West Liberty 2-1

The West Virginia Wesleyan College women's soccer team traveled to West Liberty University Sunday and dropped a close contest, 2-1.

Statistically, the teams ended the day evenly matched. Both teams notched 16 shots, corners were 5-4 in favor of the West Liberty, and saves were seven for the Bobcats' Alyssa Williams and five for the Hilltoppers' Zara Wickert.

All scoring came in just a single, three-minute time span. After a scoreless first half, the Hilltoppers found the goal twice in less than two minutes with Amelia Compston scoring unassisted in the 50th minute and Katie Farley in the 52nd minute (assist to: Maya Taggart). Then, just 40 seconds later, the Bobcats' Beth Burchett claimed her first goal of the season (unassisted).

The women will get a couple of days to recuperate from a six-day, three-match stretch before heading on the road to Fairmont State on Oct. 4 for a 7 p.m. start with the Falcons.
