A multiplication of injuries continued to hamper West Virginia Wesleyan College's 2023 football campaign and the Bobcats dropped its fifth straight, 58-3, to Wheeling University Saturday at Bishop Schmitt Field in Wheeling.
Â
Last week's Mountain East Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, kicker
Liam Depp, provided the Bobcats only points which came on a 44-yard field goal at the end of its first drive that went 14 plays for 49 yards in a time of 6:53.
Â
The Bobcats would put together two more drives over 40 yards, one in the 3rd quarter and the other in the 4th, but both were turned over within the 35-yard line on downs as the offense tried to scrape back against a lopsided scoreboard.
Â
Quinton Pulley and
Nathan Payne shared the majority of quarterback responsibilities. Pulley went 6-for-15 and 90 yards while Payne added 5-for-11 and 31 yards.
Â
The ground game was led by
Kevin Mitchell (13 rushes for 44 net yards) and
Charles Spratley (13 rushes for 39 net yards).

Wesleyan hosts West Liberty University Saturday, Oct. 14. Kickoff is 1 p.m.
