Season Preview: Baseball Prepared To Start New Season

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The West Virginia Wesleyan Baseball team will begin the 2023 season next Saturday (Feb. 25) in Butler, Pa. against Penn State Greater Allegheny. Lee Bradley enters his 2nd season as the leader of the Bobcat program.

The 2022 Season
Wesleyan went (3-40) overall and (3-29) in MEC play last season, finishing last in the South Division. The Bobcats secured conference wins against Alderson Broaddus, Charleston and West Virginia State.

Key Returners
Sam Ingram brings a lot of experience back for WVWC, starting in 41 games and having a .268 BA, 38 hits, 8 XBH and 18 RBI. Ingram stole 10 bases as well.

Jack Tilton is another experienced Bobcat returning, starting in 42 games last season. Tilton was second on the team in hits with 34 and he finished with a .254 BA, 6 XBH and 14 RBI.

In just 22 games, Devin Johnson hit .362 with 25 hits, 8 doubles, 1 HR, 15 RBI and .940 OPS.

AJ Ventry led the team in strikeouts with 36 in 51.2 IP and 3 complete games.

The New Season
Following the Bobcats three-game series with Penn State Greater Allegheny, WVWC will head to Florida for the RussMatt Baseball Invitational. While down south, Wesleyan will play seven games from March 4-9.

The Bobcats return to West Virginia for a weekend series with Bluefield State on March 11-12. Wesleyan will be at home for the first time on the weekend of March 18-19 against Alderson Broaddus and Notre Dame (Ohio). WVWC closes the month of March on the road at Wheeling and West Liberty for doubleheaders and a single-game at West Virginia Tech.

Wesleyan opens up April at home against Fairmont State and Frostburg State on April 1-2. The Bobcats hit the road the following weekend in the Institute but are back in Buckhannon for seven-straight home games. In that span, WVWC plays Salem for one, Concord in a four-game series and a double-header against Shepherd. They will hit the road to face Charleston for four games but then return home against Glenville State in a four-game series to end April.

WVWC finishes the season out with a home and home four-game series with Davis & Elkins.

The Mountain East Conference Tournament will be May 10-14 at GoMart Ballpark in Charleston, W.Va.
