Preview: Bobcats Make Short Trip To Davis & Elkins To Close Out Regular Season

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – West Virginia Wesleyan Women's Basketball will close out the regular season on Saturday at Davis & Elkins, tipping off at 2 p.m. The Senators won in a game that went down to the wire earlier in the season 67-61 in Buckhannon. The Bobcats are currently 11th in the MEC standings as only the Top-10 make the conference tournament.

DAVIS & ELKINS SENATORS
The Senators enter (6-19) overall and (6-15) in MEC play. Davis & Elkins picked up a huge road win at Frostburg State 71-65 on Wednesday to clinch their ticket into the MEC Tournament.

D&E is an active team on the glass, ranking 2nd in Team Rebounds (42.2 RPG) and Defensive Rebounds (29.2 DRPG). The Senators are also in the Top-5 in the league in Steals (8.68 SPG), Blocked Shots (3.3 BPG) and Assists (12.8 APG). Davis & Elkins does struggle defensively, allowing 79.2 PPG (11th MEC).

Taylor Smith ranks 10th in the league and leads the Senators in scoring at 15.9 PPG. Smith had 25 points and five three pointers in the last matchup with WVWC. Ellie Wilkerson is 14th in the MEC in scoring, averaging 14.3 PPG. Smith sits 3rd in the league in 3PFG% (42%) and Wilkerson is 2nd in FG% (57%).

Donna Carr is in her first season as the Head Coach of Davis & Elkins. Carr spent two seasons at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa, Fla. most recently and was at Saint Leo University prior to Hillsborough. In her college career, she was a 3-year starter at the University of South Carolina before transferring to Catawba College to finish her career, leading them to a Conference Championship and an Elite 8 D-II appearance. She also played professionally overseas.

WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN BOBCATS
The Bobcats enter (5-19) overall and (4-17) in MEC play. Wesleyan lost to Fairmont State on the road 59-46 on Wednesday.

WVWC lowered their opponents scoring average down to 68.8 PPG, staying put at 4th best in the conference. The Bobcats offensive numbers have lingered around the bottom of the league all season besides 3PFG% (29%), which ties them for 6th in the conference.

Emma Witt's average dropped to 15.3 PPG after only scoring six points at FSU. Witt was on a four-game streak of 20 or more points until the Falcons were able to contain her. Daveona Hatchell ranks 12th in the MEC in rebounding at 6.8 RPG and Courtney Wilfong is 9th in assists at 3.2 APG.
