Softball Sweeps Day 2 Of THE Spring Games

CLERMONT, Fla. – The West Virginia Wesleyan Softball team swept Day 2 of THE Spring Games with wins over Seton Hill and Millersville. The Bobcats defeated Seton Hill 1-0 in eight innings and won 2-1 against Millersville. The Bobcats only allowed four hits on the day, including giving up just one hit to Millersville.

Game 1 vs Seton Hill
It was a very quiet game offensively for both sides as each team had only three hits combined. Wesleyan got their first baserunner in the bottom of the 1st when Grace Smith singled to right but she would be left stranded. The Griffins had a runner in scoring position in the top of the 2nd on an error, eventually ending the inning with nothing.

A lot of 1-2-3s for both sides and a few walks until the 7th inning when Alyssa Rohr got on with a single. Rohr was left there after a flyout to send the game into extra innings. SHU had runners on first and third with two outs in the top of the 8th, popping up to Kaitlyn Rizor to end their half of the inning.

Taylor Swartz moved the runner over to third on a groundout and Kiley Turner walked it off with a sacrifice fly to right field to win the game.

Nina Grandey, Mackenzie Zang and Camryn Murphy were the only Griffins to get a hit. Lauren Dellet went 7.2 innings, giving up one run (unearned) on three hits without a strikeout.

Grace Hightower, Grace Smith and Alyssa Rohr were able to get a hit off of Dellet with Kiley Turner getting the only RBI of the game. Hannah Hudson pitched an eight-inning gem, surrendering three hits and five strikeouts with only two walks. It was Hudson's second win of the season.

Game 2 vs Millersville
The Bobcats were able to get on the board early with Kaitlyn Rizor hitting an RBI single after a pair of singles from Grace Smith and Alli Robinson in the 1st. Taylor Swartz was left in scoring position in the top of the 2nd after starting the inning off with a leadoff double. Millersville committed costly errors in the top of the 4th, having two errors back-to-back and a passed ball allowing Bella Posey to score to make it 2-0.

Kendall Stoffel continued to sit the Millersville offense down in order until the Marauders were able to load the bases and score on four-straight walks by Stoffel. Abigail O'Shields was able to come in and close out the inning.

Wesleyan attempted to get an insurance run in the 7th but were unsuccessful, leaving Alyssa Rohr at second. O'Shields put away Millersville 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 7th on two-straight popups and a groundout to secure the win.

Sam Fried had the lone hit for the Marauders and Alyssa Stover was able to get an RBI on the walk. Morgan Crutcher took the loss after going two innings and giving up one earned run. In five innings of relief, the bullpen only allowed one hit and gave up no runs.

Grace Smith was the only Bobcat with more than one hit as she went 2-4 at the plate. Kaitlyn Rizor finished 1-3 with 1 RBI. Kendall Stoffel secured her second win of the season after going 5.1 innings and only allowing one earned run on one hit. Stoffel did walk six but struck out five. Abigail Shields got the save after going 1.2 innings with one strikeout.
