WHEELING, W.Va. – The West Virginia Wesleyan Softball team shutout the Wheeling Cardinals this afternoon on the road, taking the first game 5-0 and winning 8-0 in five innings in the second game. The Bobcats totaled 15 hits while only allowing five hits between the two games.
Game 1
Morgan Norris and
Andie Dizon put together two out offense in the top of the 1
st with back-to-back singles, eventually being stranded from a strikeout. The Cardinals had their only hit of the game in their first at-bat in the bottom of the 1
st.
Alyssa Souders opened the top of the 2
nd with a single and
Kiley Turner ripped a double to left to score Souders, plating the first run of the game.
Both squads were quiet until the top of the 5
th when
Morgan Norris gave the Bobcats a 4-0 lead on a big 3-run HR.
Hannah Hudson continued her dominance in the bottom of the 5
th, striking out two batters. After
Maya Reyes walked with two outs,
Kiley Turner picked up her second RBI of the day with a double to right, extending the lead to 5-0.
Wheeling found other ways to put baserunners on in the bottom of the 6
th, putting runners at first and second from an error and a walk with two outs. Hudson then forced a grounder to third to end the inning. In the bottom of the 7
th, the Cardinals were sat down 1-2-3 to end the game with WVWC cruising to a 5-0 victory.
Maddie Munoz had the lone hit for the Cardinals and Anna Florczak was able to draw a walk. Maria Clark went five innings, picking up the loss after giving up four runs (all earned) on seven hits and striking out two.
Morgan Norris tallied two hits, including her 3-run HR.
Kiley Turner also picked up two hits and finished with 2 RBI.
Hannah Hudson was dominate en route to her 12
th win of the season, going seven innings with only one hit and one walk while striking out seven.
Game 2
The 1
st inning was quick but the 2
nd inning saw the Bobcats put up three runs. With
Andie Dizon,
Alli Robinson and
Alyssa Souders all getting on to load the bases,
Kiley Turner stayed hot with a 2-run single to left field.
Alyssa Rohr then picked up a two out single that plated
Kaitlyn Rizor to make it 3-0.
Kendall Stoffel allowed two hits in the bottom of the 2
nd, going back to the dugout unscathed after finishing the inning with a strikeout.
In the top of the 3
rd,
Morgan Norris singled in the infield and
Andie Dizon picked up two of her four RBI on a homer to left, extending the Bobcat lead to 5-0.
Jenna Christopher scored on a wild pitch early in the top of the 4
th and
Andie Dizon got her other two RBI with a 2-run double to right. With the Bobcats up 8-0,
Kendall Stoffel finished out strong to secure the 8-0 win in five innings.
Four different Cardinals made up the four hits on the day. Randi Holder was the losing pitcher after just two innings, allowing five runs (all earned) on six hits. The bullpen pitched three innings and gave up three runs (two earned) on just one hit.
Andie Dizon was 3-3 with 4 RBI to lead the Bobcats with
Alyssa Rohr and
Kiley Turner adding 2 RBI apiece as well.
Kendall Stoffel grabbed her 16
th win of the season after pitching five innings and surrendering four hits while striking out six.
